This delicious twist on pound cake all began because we ran out of vanilla extract. We needed to bring a cake to an important function, reached in the pantry, and decided almond would have to do. The compliments were overwhelming, and the rest was history! We use only the freshest ingredients in our pound cakes because we believe great ingredients make great cakes. Hurry and get your order in ONLY 3 REMAIN! This is your chance to reserve 1/2 of a Heritage hog to be raised just for you. They are a Mulefood / Redwattle cross, very tasty, tender and darker pork. We use only 100% non GMO feed and give the pigs fresh ground to root and feed on. They are moved weekly to new ground and given all the garden goodies that can eat. We do not use any chemical dewormers, antibiotics or growth hormones. We will raise them to around 200lbs. You will get the entire side, dressed to include, baccon, chops, ribs, ham, shoulder roasts, tenderloin and ground pork. You will get around 65 to 75lbs of meat about 5.00 per lb. We will take to the processor, have cut and wrapped per your request. I will bring each half to market for pick up. I can fit two whole pigs in a 7 cubic foot freezer so you will not need a big one. They will be ready for the late July or early August. Since they are not feed commercial rations and allowed to move freely in large lots it takes them a bit longer to grow. This is the total cost, you will not have anything extra to pay. The 375.00 price includes the market fees of 13% paid to locallygrown.

The cardoon was popular in Greek, Roman, and Persian cuisine, and remained popular in medieval and early modern Europe. It also became common in the vegetable gardens of colonial America. They fell from fashion only in the late 19th century. In Europe, cardoon is still cultivated in France (Provence, Savoie, Lyonnais), Spain and Italy. In the Geneva region, where Huguenot refugees introduced it in about 1685, the local cultivar 'Argenté de Genève' ('Cardy')is considered a culinary specialty. Cardoons also are common vegetables in northern Africa, often used in Algerian or Tunisian couscous. It is spectacular as an ornamental plant, resembling artichoke, and grows well in Georgia. Our plants are 4-5' in diameter and 2 1/2 to 3' tall with a 3-5 inch showy, purple flower in the summer.
